Hello everyone! It's Mary from Binkie and Biscuit finally starting a little blog for myself! I've always liked blogging, and have done this on platforms like Wix in the past. But it was during a time I was trying to figure out if I wanted to separate my crochet work and game development things into different websites. So unfortunately those posts are kinda lost to time at this point. But all well, no use crying over spilled milk right?
Point is, today is the day I pick up blogging again! This blog will mostly just be about, well, me! And generally what I'm up to. I will be talking about creative projects I'm pursuing, things I've been working on, and generally how I've been feeling in my day to day. As of late I've been working mostly on crochet work and trying to build my Etsy/Youtube channel. Both of which I will link at the bottom of this page. But that is mainly what I will be posting about and tracking progress on.
My dream is to one day be able to turn crocheting into a job. If that'll be with Youtube or Etsy has yet to be decided. Maybe both if I'm lucky! In all honesty, I think I will be at my happiest in life if I worked like 3 days a week doing something like retail and got my primary income from crochet work. But I'm a long way off from making that reality. Doesn't mean I won't continue to reach for the stars!
My Youtube channel has been doing a lot better than I expected it to. I've reached 72 subscribers after I got a shout-out from another crochet Youtuber Michelle Jasek. But even before then my videos have consistently reached over 100 views after the first week of being up. I know in the grand scheme of things that isn't a whole lot but, to me it really means the world. A hundred people on average watching my videos is plenty enough to fill a movie theater room so, I like to picture it like that! But the shout-out from Michelle did help me a lot being she's got a much larger audience than me. I made her a doll back in December and she gave me the recognition because of that. It genuinely was just a labor of love for her content, but getting the shout-out in one of her videos was very much appreciated.
As for what I've been doing creatively, it's mostly been crocheting. I have a lot to do for Valentines Day! I have to make gifts for 3 separate people after all. I usually make something for my friend Stephanie because we've just known each other so long, It's my friend Katerina's birthday on Valentines Day, and of course there's my girlfriend Lyra. I like making things for people I love on Valentines Day but, it's a lot of work. The materials I needed arrived late too which didn't help. But so be it, some of the people I mentioned already know their gifts will be late this year and have been plenty understanding. I'll go more into detail about what I made later, I wouldn't want to spoil the surprise for them!
But that doesn't mean I haven't been working on my next video! I've been working on crocheting a doll of Flandre Scarlet from Touhou. I'm using new techniques for this one, like making the doll fully pose-able, and learning a new method of doing faces. I'm almost done with the doll so I'll get to editing the video very soon! So keep your eyes out for that.
Other than that, my personal life has been rather mundane. Mostly just going to work, coming home, and grinding out my crochet projects. I'm super behind on my temperature blanket project for 2025. Almost to the point I'm debating if it's worth trying to catch up. I really want to finish it, but that vacation I took in January really put me behind! Each day I put it off makes it another day it'll be harder to catch up. So hopefully my brain will work up the motivation sooner rather than later.
Well, that's all I have for this post. Maybe I'll do these weekly? Maybe it'll be monthly? Or maybe it'll just be when I feel like it. Haven't decided yet. Regardless, thank you for reading and have an awesome day folks!
